Emergency and Trauma Care in Resource-Limited Settings

Medical emergencies occur every day in health facilities across Uganda. They affect people of all ages and arise from infectious diseases, obstetric complications, trauma, cardiovascular disease, poisoning, endocrine disorders and acute surgical conditions. Although the causes vary considerably, the principles of recognising and managing these emergencies remain remarkably similar. One of the greatest challenges facing health workers is that critically ill patients often deteriorate rapidly.
